Your Creative Connection ~ A Rainbow for You

Your Creative Connection Banner

The theme for this week’s creative showcase group, Your Creative Connection, is “A Rainbow for You”.  This is a group of demonstrator friends from around the world and every two weeks, we pick a theme and interpret that theme into our creations.

rainbow of cards with magnolia land dspI love this week’s theme as it makes me think of happy things!   I thought I would interpret the theme with a happy rainbow for you of pale pastel coloured cards. You can see each of the cards individually below.

The soft colour palette makes me think of Easter.   I think we might all need some happy things to think about this weekend when people can not gather for Easter with their families due to social distancing.

magnolia lane dspFor these cards, I coloured some of Stampin’ Up!’s Magnolia Lane Designer Series Papers with Blends alcohol markers (see more about the markers here). I love this idea of colouring this gorgeous paper. And I got this idea from another demonstrator, Josee Smuck.  I love her coloured cards and I decided to colour some of our Gold Metallic-Edge Vanilla Ribbon, with the Blends markers, to match as well.   See the complete list of supplies at the end of this post.

Pastel Stampin Up Easter coloursThe colours I used for my “Rainbow for You” are:

  1. So Saffron
  2. Calypso Coral
  3. Petal Pink
  4. Purple Posy
  5. Seaside Spray
  6. Soft Sea Foam

I was worried that because these colours are so light that they would not “cover” up some of the Petal Pink that was already in the Magnolia Lane Designer Series Paper.  But, when I added the Dark Blends marker to those areas, it just enhanced the shadows in the designs.  Even the Petal Pink card looks amazing coloured in as it is just more intense than the original paper. Compare the colour Petal Pink card with the Designer Paper above, uncoloured.

Petal pink

I wanted to include the lovely Soft Sea Foam colour in my selection of pastel colours, but I wasn’t sure how it would look with green flowers.  But that little bit of pink in the flowers was just enough, and the green-on-green makes for a wonderfully monochromatic card scheme.

soft sea foam I love the sayings on these cards too.  They are all from the new Ornate Thanks stamp set which is part of a suite of products that are available right now, but only for the month of April. I love the sweet little scripted font and all the variety of phrases you can create.  They are are a sneak peek of something that will come out in the next Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalogue.  Learn more about the Ornate Garden Suite of products HERE.

I also added in the Calypso Coral to the colours as I felt a rainbow needed an orange colour. It isn’t as pastel as the rest of the cards, but I love the intensity of the Calypso Coral against the black paper.

calypso coroalWhen I coloured the vanilla ribbon on each of these cards, I used the Dark version of the Blends markers to get the shades.  I love the gold edge trim on these ribbons.  And I wanted to match that trim colour with another gold accent (it’s always good to match)!  So I used the Gilded Gems from the Ornate Garden Suite (see here for more details about the Suite). I used one of each size of the gems on these cards.

seaside sprayThe only ribbon I didn’t have to colour was the one on my Petal Pink card as we already have a ribbon in that colour (see the supplies list at the end).

I thought the Seaside Spray card and colour combo might be my favourite one as I love this blue/purplish colour.  And I think this version might be perfect as a sympathy card.  But my favourite, it turns out, is this last card, the one with Purple Posy (mostly because I love anything purple).Purple Posy

These cards are seriously so gorgeous, that I might just have to try all of the Stampin’ Up! colours!! Which one is your favourite?
