Stampin’ Up! Bunny Holding Carrot Card Tutorial

Bunny holding Carrot using Stampin' Up!'s Easter basket Bundle If you love finding new ways to stretch your stamp sets, this little bunny card is such a fun one to try.

For this card, I used the Easter Basket Bundle from Stampin’ Up! and made one tiny change that completely changes the look of the stamped image. By carefully cutting around the bunny’s arm, I was able to slide the die-cut carrot underneath so it looks like the bunny is actually holding it. It is such a small detail, but it makes the card feel extra cute and interactive.

260318 Colour Combo Stamp with JennPulling colours from your Designer Series Paper

One of my favourite things about this card is the colour palette.

I used the Lovely & Beautiful Designer Series Paper and let the paper choose the colours for me. For this project, I pulled in Fresh Freesia, Peach Pie, and Old Olive, then added Peach Pie cardstock for the base. Matching colours with the Designer Series Paper is one of the easiest ways to make a card feel coordinated. When the paper already gives you a beautiful mix of colours, half the work is done for you.

The paper itself is gorgeous too, with soft florals and touches of gold. It is one of those papers where both sides are beautiful, which always makes it hard to choose.

Adding texture to the background

Before I started assembling the card, I embossed a piece of cardstock using the Beautiful Pattern 3D Embossing Folder.

This adds a subtle background texture that gives the card more interest without taking away from the focal image. It is a simple step, but it makes a big difference. I have not shown embossing on a Live in a little while, so it was fun to bring the machine out for this one.

The bunny holding the carrot trick

This is the part that makes the card.

After stamping and colouring the bunny and carrot, I used the knife tip from the Take Your Pick Crafter Tips (see them on the supply list below) to carefully cut around the bunny’s arm. Then I slid the carrot underneath before adhering it in place.

It really is just a tiny cut, but it changes the whole image. Instead of the carrot sitting beside the bunny, it looks like the bunny is gripping it. That one little adjustment opens up so many more creative possibilities for this stamp set.

If you like finding simple “stamp hacks” that make your images more versatile, this is a fun one to keep in mind.

Bunny holding Carrot using Stampin' Up!'s Easter basket Bundle Simple colouring with Stampin’ Blends

I kept the colouring soft and simple for this card.

I used:

  • Fresh Freesia Stampin’ Blends for the bunny’s ear

  • Peach Pie Stampin’ Blends for the carrot

  • Old Olive Stampin’ Blends for the carrot top

  • Smoky Slate Stampin’ Blends plus the Colour Lifter for a little soft shading on the bunny

The shading is very subtle, but it gives the bunny a little more depth while still keeping the overall look light and sweet.

A layout inspired by a card sketch

The layout for this card was inspired by one of the card templates available through Stampin’ Up!’s mailing list.

card templates and designs for homemade greeting cardsIt features a simple shape with a banner underneath, which made a great starting point for this design. I added my own twist by using the die-cut label shape, embossed layer, grass die cut, and bunny focal point (see the complete list of supplies below).

It is always nice to start with a layout idea and then make it your own.

Bunny holding Carrot using Stampin' Up!'s Easter basket Bundle Why I like this card so much

There are a few things I really love about this card:

  • the bunny holding the carrot is just adorable

  • the Designer Series Paper makes the colour choices easy

  • the embossed background adds texture without feeling busy

  • the soft spring palette makes it feel sweet and fresh

  • the design could easily be adapted for more than just Easter

It is a cute card, but it is also a great reminder that sometimes a tiny change can help you see a stamp set in a whole new way.
