Your Creative Connection: Return to the Fold: Double Z Fold Card
It’s the 4th Wednesday of the month and time for a showcase of card fold ideas from my demonstrator friends from Your Creative Connection. This week’s theme is “Return to the Fold” and I’m showing casing a Double Z Fold card. I think this type of card fold is super fun and very easy to do. See the complete measurements and supply list at the end of this post.
A Double Z Fold is a card that has the card front folded back on itself and then has a panel that does the same inside the card. For my Double Z Fold card, I was able to create a whole scene that unfolds as you open up the card. I’ll share the measurements for these folds below.
I made this card to be a “support” type of card that you could send to someone you are thinking about. But it could easily turn into a sympathy card or a birthday card with a different saying. It would also work as a masculine card.
When you open up the card, you see the little boat docked on the shore. I even raised up the end of the boat so it is on a dimensional and it looks like it has been pulled ashore. Notice the little fish poking its head out of the water too? The boat and the dock are from the stamp set By the Dock. I used several other stamp sets to build my scene. You can see them all in the list at the end of this post.
When you open the card, I realized I needed to add some water image to the back panel as you can see thru the card when it is open. I used the water image from the stamp set High Tide. I also used some of the brush images and the dotted type image to stamp some of the greenery.
The background tree line was created with the stamp set Mountain Air. And I also used the seagull image from this stamp set. I use the Sponge Brayer and Balmy Blue ink to create the sky and added the cloud images from the stamp set Sending Sunshine. I also used some of the images in this stamp set for the shoreline.
Here are the measurements for the Double Z fold card:
Card Base:
8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″; scored at 2″ and 4 1/4:
Fold Out Piece:
8 1/2″ x 2 1/2″; scored at 4 1/4″ and 2″
Tips:
For the fold-out piece, I also die cut the edge with the Friendly Silhouettes Dies (using the die with the palm tree) so that I would have a curved water line. I just made sure to cut off the palm trees.
When you assemble the card you reverse the folds. So the part of the strip that faces the front of the card is the one that measures 2 1/2″ x 4 1/4″. Also, be sure to only add adhesive under the very ends of this panel so that it opens up all the way.
Check out what my fellow demonstrators did with the “Return to the Fold” theme. And be sure to check out the complete supply list for my Double Z fold card below.
