This was one of the cards at my recent Stamp-a-Stack event.  It uses the technique called "in-laid embossing". 

You basically attach the shapes (in this cased punched out hearts) to the front of your card and then run them through the Big Shot with an Embossing folder.  It then looks like the punched out shapes have been set into the cardstock…very cool.
